Ofcourse, the first problem with "beach time" would be finding the right bathing suit, or swimsuit or swimming trunk (like my Sports teacher in high school called it) or even worse, bikini (as some highly un-informed people like to generalise it). The swimsuit isn't a trend that lasts every season; I mean, no one in their "right state of mind" will rock a swimsuit in winter. Emphasis on the right state of mind. However, it is a trend that'll last forever as long as summer never stops coming by.
Personally, I would say everyone should wear what they feel like because it's all about confidence. But after seeing some interesting people in some rather interesting swimsuits recently, I have decided that a little education on swimsuits will not be a bad idea....at all. First of all, all women need to realise that we don't have the same body shapes. What works for Kim Kardashian will probably not work for Keira Knightely....unfortunately.
There are four types of bodies in relations to swimsuit. Before I go into the types, I want you to know that these are my personal classifications, but you can be sure you'll fit into one of these categories. Sigh. Well, hopefully.
THE CURVACEOUS WOMAN: like the name suggests, this woman has everything. She has a full bust, big bum, bumbum, ass, junk or whatever you like to call it, the narrow waist and thighs. Very often, this woman may have one more than the other. For example, she could have more boobs and minimal ass or vice versa. Typical examples of this woman are Kim Kardashian and Christina Hendricks (the red-haired woman in the series mad men). This woman can get away with any swimsuit as long as she embraces her curves and WEARS HER SIZE.
THE SLENDER WOMAN WITH CURVES: I'm sure I am not the only person who has seen some really skinny girls with curves. Those curves are not as big or as noticeable as the curvaceous woman, but they are still obvious. This woman can wear what the curvaceous woman wears, meaning she can wear any type of swimsuit, ofcouse in a smaller size. This is because both have an hourglass figure and that rocks anything. Typical examples of this woman is Selena Gomez (Justin Bieber's girlfriend) & Emma Watson (the Harry Potter girl, i think it's Herm...something). Anyways, here are some bathing suit ideas for these women.
This is a good look for this woman because the wide spacing between the cups makes room for a decent cleavage and the underwire support is very important with fuller bust.
THE BOYISH FIGURE:
This bikini bottoms are suitable because they have ruffles and florals which give a feminine look. The horizontal stripes make the hips look wider.
This tankini is very good for this woman because the sinch at the waist with the A-line creates the illusion of a narrow waist.
This woman can also rock a one-piece suit, but preferably one with cuts because daring cuts shows a feminine side and she can get away with this without looking slutty because of her minimal curves.
THE PLUS SIZE WOMAN: this is the woman with everything extra. She has a thick & voluptuous frame. She is usually fuller than the "stupid dictates of the society". A typical example would be Amber Riley (the black girl in GLEE). This woman would look magnigicent in a flattering one-piece suit or tankini. However, she has to be careful when picking a swimsuit so she won't be throwing too much at the world. Here are some stylish pieces for this woman. Please ignore some of the skinny models wearing them and look at the swimsuit itself. :D
Happy Summer! xo
